Testimonials From Some Of The Many Satisfied
Thomas M. Keeler Restoration Clients
A couple years ago, we bought a Historical Mansion in Glen Ridge from a family that had lived in it and had been continuously “updating” it for 50 years. We needed a contractor who could return this house back to its original glory and do it in 2 months. I contacted Tom Keeler to come look at the property and advise us as to where we should start with renovations prior to us moving in. Tom is an expert with old houses, both interior and exterior, and with his direction, we decided to strip down 3 entire floors which included interior walls, molded ceilings, 4 marble fireplaces, transom windows and a winding staircase, all to get a smooth and even finish before painting. Tom and his crew worked steadily for 8 weeks, repairing walls, molding, cracked ceilings and broken stairs, as well as stripping all the hardware down to its original luster. It was clear from the beginning of the project that I couldn’t have found a more competent, enthusiastic and capable carpenter, and I was always comfortable with his crew and the job they were doing under his direction. They finished on time and we moved into a 135 year old house with a newly restored and damn near perfect interior. If you are looking for a contractor who really cares about his work, one who will be fair and do a thorough job, then take my recommendation because Tom Keeler is passionate about his work and delivers as promised. I am so glad we hired him and no one else!

In Search of a Master Carpenter
Having lived in New Jersey and owning a home for the last 20 years or so, I have been dragged through the coals, by many contractors that have claimed to be masters of their trade, until I met Tom Keeler.
The project of building a portico over the front and side doors did not seem to be a tall order until I started the search and had discussions with potential contractors. When Tom came over, he assessed the situation and returned with a conceptual design that not only fell in line with the overall architecture, but enhanced the road side appeal, providing an almost regal setting. As one of my friends said, “it makes the house look so IMPORTANT.” The finished product was even more impressive… the work of a true craftsman!
To this day, I have people coming up to my house wanting to know the name of the carpenter that built the portico because they have never seen such detail and quality.
I would highly recommend Tom for any home restoration project, especially if you are looking for the highest quality in craftsmanship and in getting the job done right the first time.

We would like to thank you very much for all the hard work put forth by you and your company during our indoor, outdoor renovation. The process was very well organized and went smoothly. We really appreciated the extra consideration given to keeping within the heritage look of the house.
We appreciated the fact that you started construction on time and came every day until it was completed. You can be assured that I would highly recommend your company to anyone that has a renovation or restoration project that needs to be completed. We are pleased with the workmanship and materials used in the renovation process. If we ever require any further renovations, we will be sure to call you.
We would like to thank you for the incredible work you have done for us in our home, especially in light of the fact that many abnormalities needed to be addressed. You always left the house as clean as when you arrived and have been exceptional to work with. I would not hesitate to recommend your company to anyone. Please feel free to use us as a reference at any time, it would be our pleasure.

Our 1897 Montclair home had been allowed to deteriorate for many years when we bought it. Thankfully, Tom Keeler helped us restore it to its original beauty. Tom is a true craftsman willing to work with the house in a way that honors the original architectural design and with great care. He studied the house design and the underlying structure and restored windows, back porches and rails, doors, a portico and outside architectural detail that others had told us was impossible. When our roof (two layers of asphalt over original cedar shingles!) needed replacement, he helped us find a roofer. Then Tom coordinated with the roofer to repair and replace trim and structural elements. He also re-built the Yankee Gutters along the roofline of the house, which had been roofed over years ago. The biggest project he undertook was the covered wrap-around porch, which Tom and his crew rebuilt from scratch to match photos from 100 years ago. He worked with a millwork shop to custom fabricate the original profile for the curved porch rail, and custom turned 150 spindles to match the original shape. He even designed and constructed the gorgeous “wedding cake” tiered curved front stairs from the old photo. That staircase is a true work of art!

Being the owner of a house that is over 100 years old, I’ve seen my fair share of contractors, most of whom did shoddy work that has not stood the test of time. When it came time to repair and replace our front porch we searched long and hard for a craftsman rather than a carpenter. We were very lucky to have found Thomas Keeler and his crew. Thomas knows what it takes to lovingly restore an old home to its former glory and has the knowledge and skill to deliver amazing results. Our home looks wonderful and more importantly, it is sound and ready for the next 100 years. Thomas is one of the last few remaining contractors of integrity whose passion for detailed restoration is backed up by real knowledge and know how. Thanks for restoring my faith in contractors, and for restoring my home.
